Steak & Oysters

One thing I love about Springtime, are the Feeds. There's the Crab Feed, the Crab Cioppino Feed, the Steak and Oyster Feed, the Spaghetti Feed...
And last night it was all about the Oyster! An evening at the Oakdale Sportsmen's Club, a baby sitter, good friends, no cooking... and Oysters! Plus, a chance to win assorted firearms and other goodies in one of the many raffle opportunities. How much better could it get?!

Many thanks to my darling husband and his shrimp allergy, we don't attend a cioppino feed unless cold crab is an option, so when there are oysters on the menu, I don't even check the calendar - We'll Be There! I could live on seafood, not sure if it's a good thing we don't live on the coast, or not... I'm pretty sure that I could eat shellfish every day.
The bowls of BBQ'd oysters that they put down on the table were Amazing! (enter singing angels here) I had been looking forward to this night since we bought our tickets nearly 2 months ago and it was everything I had hoped for! It was grab and pass from the moment the first bowl hit the table.
It was clear that we have not been to an oyster feed in a while. My dear friend, Jamie, brought her fondue pot and proceeded to warm up a homemade sauce - butter, garlic, and "some other stuff" was the recipe she & Mike gave me! I told her that I didn't really need the recipe, I'll be sending over a jar for her to fill for me the next time they make a batch! It was Incredible!
We also failed to bring the proper "tools" for the job! There were screwdrivers being passed up and down the table! I must say, I looked to borrow one a time or two...
My method was pretty simple: Grab an oyster, crack, sauce, pry and enjoy. Mmmm... My husband, on the other hand, took another approach...
There was a full dinner served, the plates came piled with salad, baked potato, a Huge steak and a dinner roll... some of us didn't eat more than a few bites of our steak...
... then I looked back, and he was still at it! Stockpiling, if you will, his opened oysters for the sheer enjoyment of back to back Yumminess! Is that even a word? :)
Simply toss your "empties" into the bucket and grab some more from the bowl...
add a little of Jamie & Mike's sauce, a splash of tapatio and you're all set!
Fun times!

It's always good to have a little time with the girls, even when the guys are there, too. :)
After dinner it was time for everyone to grab their raffle tickets and listen up! Stef was the only winner last night, she took home 2 cases of wine... guess the rest of us needed to buy more tickets to increase our odds. Oh, well... there's always next year!

By the way... Happy Mother's Day to all of the special, hard-working mom's out there! Hope you made sure to spend a few minutes of your day with your feet up, snuggling with your little ones! I sure did!

I LOVE community feeds like this...but in the center of North America we don't get oysters. it's more like wild game feeds. Love the pics. Happy Mother's Day!
