The elusive 64 ounces...

For some reason, I have always found it difficult to drink "enough" water each day. Over and over I've been reminded that I should be drinking 8 - 8 oz. glasses per day, at a minimum. Does not seem like a difficult challenge... I have a kitchen sink that dispenses perfectly good water from the well right outside the window. Pour it through a Brita and store it in the fridge and I don't even need ice.

But, for some reason, those 64 oz. seem to elude me time and time again. So, I tried to pin-point my exact "issue" with water. Hhmmm... well, what am I drinking in its place? Coffee, Milk, tea, an occasional Diet Pepsi, and of course there's the occasional adult beverage :) ... I could probably drink the 64 oz. a day in coffee if given a good excuse. Thoughts of the impending caffeine withdrawals and detox are definitely enough to prevent me from doing so.

So what is it? I've finally come to the conclusion that water is... well, it's just Boring. I gave Crystal Light a whirl for a while, but even got tired of that. I have realized, by some strange coincidence, that I can suck down a cup of water in no time - When and Only When there is a Straw in my cup. Go figure. The straw does nothing for the flavor of the water, and I do not find the water any more "exciting", but for some reason, it just works.

Now that the weather is warming up (or at least that's what Phil says) we'll be spending more time outside playing and less time curled up with a blanket and a hot cup of coffee. I figure now is a good time for me to come up with a plan to attack those elusive 64 oz.! Today, I decided that I'd go with the straw thing and see how it works out. I rinsed the cup that once held iced tea from my favorite local drink stop, threw in some ice... and as I was sliding the freezer drawer shut, my eye caught on a bag of strawberries! I recently purchased some huge fresh strawberries that I brought home, rinsed, stemmed and froze in a zip-lock bag. I figured I've got nothing to lose... grabbed a giant berry, plopped it into my cup and filled it to the brim with water.

Humph! Who would have thought?! I'm on to my second "Venti" water for the day! I'm already looking forward to summer fruit season... I think I just may have found the answer I've been looking for!

Now you just need to get a new trenta cup, and you'll be halfway (almost) there!

I just saw those! Sometimes I kick myself when I get the Venti... I just can't imagine that much caffeine in a "single" serving! Well, maybe I can... :)
