What's in our Fridge?

I was just reading Sarah's post over at This Farm Family's Life and got a kick out of the view of her fridge through her camera lens! Since it's a link-up... here goes nothing!

On the top shelf: Grated parmesan cheese (totally hidden), apple juice, sundried tomatoes, pedialite, 1/2 a container of yogurt (that I threatened would be eaten for lunch since it was not finished at breakfast... and there it sits... 3 days later...), pastrami deli meat, whip cream all in the back. Brita water pitcher, pomegranet balsamic dressing, baby spainach, defrosted ham steaks, 2 gallons of milk and a container of black berries.

Moving down: left over pork chops wrapped in foil, a salami stick (we go through one in about 3 weeks), mango chutney, hummus and corn/tomato/red onion/bell pepper salsa my SIL made (Yum!)

The deli drawer: sliced onion, ham & turkey deli meats, misc. cheeses - Oakdale Cheese, Bravo Farms, Fiscalini, Tillamook and Rumiano labels. The Rumiano is one we haven't tried before, the Real CA Cheese logo on the back got me, hook-line-and-sinker! I'll have to let you know!

2 dozen eggs, sliced deli ham, Tillamook white cheddar and baking soda (like that little box is going to help out this mess!)

Today was a Costco day... new package of asparagus and a new box of yogurt. This reminds me, I didn't put the peaches in the fridge when I got home today...

Still... there is more... a Large bottle of champagne, 3 ears of corn on the cob, dish of More sliced onion and a package of tortillas.

First crisper drawer: bag with partial head of iceberg lettuce, zucchini from our garden

Second crisper drawer: Artichokes - nothing else to say here. They're a favorite in our house!

Then there was the door... probiotic powder (for diaper rash due to antibiotics - Amazing Stuff!!), pesto, flavored syrup, hot mustard, lime juice, Sweet Baby Ray's (behind the lime juice), butter, partial bottles of 30 min. marinades, misc dressings, mustard, ketchup, ranch, lemon juice, tapatillo, mayo, pickles, A-1, more mustard, Panda Express orange sauce, partial bottles of wine for cooking... pimentos and maraschino cherries... Oh, my... this door is giving me a headache!

Then there is the Lower freezer drawer... breakfast sausage, almonds, walnuts, assorted "fresh" fruits - kiwi, blueberries and raspberries, pumpkin puree (from last year's garden), pork shoulder ribs, wild turkey, Hawaiian sausage, a bag of whole cranberries I bought last winter (clearly they've been buried), 5 lb. bag of flour...

Top freezer drawer... ice tray, giant bag of mix veggies (for emergencies), Jaeger (Which will be waiting for you when you come to visit us here in CA, Steph!), edamame, partial bag of flour, halibut, "just add milk" smoothie packets, Splash Cafe clam chowder that I picked up at Costco this afternoon (Yaa Hoo!! Fellow Cal Poly associates will testify)...

(under the clam chowder)... a Large bag of chocolate chips, butter, bacon pieces (what will I ever do when I thaw out a 2 lb bag of bacon?!), a frozen dinner (that I did not buy), wooden skewers and stuffed ravioli.

Well... it's time to get on with cooking the ham steaks, a little iceberg and spinach salad... which will it be tonight... asparagus, corn on the cob, garden zucchini or artichokes?

Maybe some other time we can explore the over flow freezer and beverage fridge in the garage... ;)

Now, what I'd like to know is...

June is Dairy Month

Did you know that June is Dairy Month?

In honor of Dairy Month, I would like to share some California dairy trivia with you, curtesy of the Real California Milk site. This site is filled with information on California dairy producers, products and recipes, be sure to check it out!

The first cows settled in the West in 1769.

California became the nation’s dairy leader in 1993. Dairy farming is the leading agricultural commodity in California.

The Real California Cheese seal was introduced more than 25 years ago.

California is home to more than 50 cheesemakers who produce 250 different varieties and styles of cheese.

Approximately 1,750 families run dairies in California. And we are  proud to be one of them!

40% of California’s milk supply goes to cheese production.

It takes 10 pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese.

California produced 21% of the nation’s milk supply in 2009.

In honor of Dairy Month, I will be posting recipes, photos and other fun dairy related items. Be sure to let me know if you have a specific favorite or request!
Cheers!

My first blogger award!

Many thanks to Sarah over at This Farm Family's Life for bestowing upon us our very first Blogger Award! Thank you, Sarah for linking us up... please take a moment to check out her farm family and their goings on, I'm sure you'll enjoy her blog as much as we do!

The rules that come with this award are to thank the person who gave it to you, link back to their blog, and pass it along to other deserving bloggers. Then, you must reveal seven things about yourself.

Well, this is definitely the more difficult part... here goes!

1. I tend to be a control freak - I did not realize this about myself until we had our second child and my husband and I decided it would be best for all if I left my job to stay home with our boys. Some days I am better at 'Letting Go' of things like toys on the floor, dishes on the counter and laundry on the chair than I'd like to be. Other days, I can't seem to function in all the disorder.

2. I love our little boys more than anything in the world, and their daddy, too! I thought my husband carried my heart in his hands, now I'm not so sure... those little ones sure know how to pull the strings.

3. I prefer to be barefoot when I'm outside, funny for someone who does not like feet! But indoors, I like socks best. Finken (we call them Finkies in our house) are great, but I seem to lose them every 9-17 minutes. Finken is the Swiss word for slippers, I don't know if our youngest even knows what Slippers are!

4.  I've got a soft spot for cows. The black-and-white (Holstein) ones to be specific. I've been able to look out my window and see them every day of my life... except for a short time in college and just after.

5. I have an enormous sense of pride for farmers and ranchers, and I love watching things grow.

6. I like to cook, but am terrified to bake. I love ending the day with time around the table with my boys and a yummy dinner - even better when I surprise us all with an experiment turns out great!

7. I suffer from But-First-Syndrome.
For example: I'm going to empty the dishwasher (open the dishwasher), But First I'll have a glass of water (pull a glass from dishwasher, fill with water, open the freezer for ice), But First I need to decide what we're having for dinner (dig through the house freezer and find too much mix-match so decide to head to the garage freezer), But First I need to water the garden (turn on the water and begin to water, find toys left in the field), But First I'll pick up these toys so the swather doesn't eat them up...
And then a little guy wakes from his nap and comes outside. It's been an hour and a half, the dishwasher is still open, dinner - whatever it is - is still in the freezer, the garden is half watered and the toys are now in the way of the lawn mower instead of the swather.
I could dedicate a post a week to the wandering mind of a But First Sufferer, maybe that would be the first step to recovery... ;)

And now for the easy part, to present this award to the following deserving bloggers:

Congratulations! Be sure to check out their blogs, they are all great!! Thanks again, Sarah!
Thanks to the world of blogging, I could have listed every single blog that I enjoy following. Be sure to check out some more of our favorites on the right side bar!

My Other Self

I saw this great suggestion over at Ocean Breezes and Country Sneezes the other day, to share my "other self"... I got a kick out of the idea and decided to give it a try!

Here goes.....

My other self wears boots over leggings...

And cowboy boots with flirty skirts.
Somehow my very well worn and abused Ariats don't seem like they fit the fun and flirty category.

Her tile floors look like this...
not scattered with dry cereal, dry lumps of dirt dropped from shoes or dark circles where water once dripped and dust immediately called a reunion.

She cooks dinner like this for her family, just a little more often...
Hhmmm... I could try these!

Her home always displays fresh, bright flowers.
Clayton is doing a great job of helping me try!

And she is much better at remembering and recognizing friends' anniversaries.

Then there is this cabin...

with the morning view...

and the evening views.

Where my love can do this with our boys. (That's him!)

And I can do this  :)  (That's Not me...)

There are lots of these...

... and these!

And there is Always be Lots of This! Maybe even more...
That's us, with our friends and family... we already do this!

I think she's got it pretty good, but then.... But really, I don't have it too bad either. ;)
